# Connecting your social accounts

Clarify syncs comments and replies from your social accounts so your team can moderate them in one place. It works with **Facebook**, **Instagram**, **TikTok** and **Threads**. You connect and manage all of them from [Settings > Platforms](https://clarify.net.au/settings/platforms).

Whichever platform a comment comes from, you can classify, hide, reply to and delete it in Clarify the same way. A few things differ platform to platform (noted below), because each network's API offers different things.

## Facebook

Facebook connects through Meta's official login. You need to be an **admin** of the Page you want to connect.

1. Go to [Settings > Platforms](https://clarify.net.au/settings/platforms) (or use the **Connect with Facebook** button on the dashboard if nothing is connected yet).
2. Click **Connect with Facebook**. You'll be taken to Facebook to log in and grant access.
3. Back in Clarify, tick the Pages you want to connect and click **Connect**.

The first scan starts immediately and you'll get a notification when it's complete, usually within a couple of minutes.

## Instagram

Instagram is connected **alongside its linked Facebook Page**, not separately. When you click **Connect with Facebook**, tick the Instagram account in the picker as well. The Instagram account must already be linked to that Facebook Page in Meta's settings. Each connected Instagram account counts as one connected account toward your plan.

A few things Instagram's API doesn't offer:

- Blocking a commenter's account (Instagram has no block API).
- Reaction breakdowns (Instagram shows a total like count only, not per-type reactions or who reacted).
- A direct link to an individual comment.

## TikTok

Click **Connect with TikTok** and sign in. TikTok's authorisation page is branded "TikTok for Business", which is expected; choose **Log in with TikTok** (or scan the QR code) and sign in as normal. You do not need an Ads or Business Center account, just the free Business Account toggle in the TikTok app. Clarify then syncs the comments on your videos.

A few things TikTok's API doesn't offer:

- Blocking a commenter's account (TikTok has no block API).
- Reaction breakdowns (TikTok shows a total like count only).
- A direct link to an individual comment (links go to the video).
- Instant comment alerts: TikTok has no comment webhooks, so new comments arrive at your next scheduled scan rather than in real time.

## Threads

Click **Connect with Threads** and sign in to the Threads profile you want to sync. Clarify then syncs the replies on your posts.

A few things Threads' API doesn't offer:

- Blocking a commenter's account (Threads has no block API).
- Reaction and like counts on replies.
- A direct link to an individual reply (links go to the post).

Hiding a Threads reply applies to top-level replies; their nested replies are hidden along with them.

> **If a platform shows as "not available yet":** TikTok and Threads integrations go through each network's app-review process. If the button tells you the platform isn't available yet, the approval is still being finalised. Check back, or contact support if it lingers.

## X (Twitter)

X is available on the **Pro** and **Agency** plans and is being switched on for workspaces in stages. If the X card says **Coming soon**, it isn't available to your workspace yet.

1. Go to [Settings > Platforms](https://clarify.net.au/settings/platforms) and click **Connect with X** on the X card.
2. Sign in to X and approve the access Clarify asks for. One sign-in connects one X account.

X is the one platform that charges for access, so it comes with a monthly allowance of X credits: reading a reply uses one. Syncing starts from the moment you connect, with no history import. See [X (Twitter) and X credits](https://clarify.net.au/help/x-and-x-credits) for what uses credits and what happens when they run out.

A few things work differently on X:

- Replies arrive at your next scheduled scan, not in real time.
- Blocking a commenter's account isn't available.
- Hiding a reply moves it behind X's "hidden replies" link; it isn't deleted.

## How many accounts can I connect?

Each platform has its own limit: **Starter** 1 per platform, **Pro** 3 per platform, **Agency** unlimited. A Starter workspace can connect one Facebook Page, one Instagram, one TikTok and one Threads profile, but not two of the same platform. See [Plans, trials and billing](https://clarify.net.au/help/plans-trials-and-billing).

## What access does Clarify ask for?

Only what the features need, and only at the account level:

- Seeing the list of Pages or accounts you manage, so you can pick one.
- Reading your posts and the comments or replies on them.
- Hiding comments and posting replies. These happen when someone on your team approves the action, or automatically only if your team has turned on [auto-hiding](https://clarify.net.au/help/auto-hiding-comments), which is off by default and always reviewable.

Clarify never asks for access to your personal profile, friends, or private messages.

## When a connection expires

Access tokens expire from time to time, for example when you change your password on the platform. When that happens the account shows a **Reconnect needed** badge and you'll see a banner on the dashboard. Go to [Settings > Platforms](https://clarify.net.au/settings/platforms) and click **Reconnect** on that account. Your history and settings are untouched; reconnecting just refreshes the access.

## Pausing an account

Next to each connected account is a **pause** button. Pausing stops Clarify contacting the platform for that account: no scheduled scans, no background updates, no API calls at all, until you press resume. Nothing is disconnected and nothing is deleted; your history, settings, and queue stay exactly as they are, and the account shows a grey **Paused** badge.

Pausing is handy when an account is being managed elsewhere for a while, or when you want to stop syncing without losing anything. Deliberate actions your team takes by hand (posting a reply, hiding a comment, a scheduled post going out) still work while paused.

## The "Rate limited" badge

Social platforms cap how often an app can check a page, and the cap is smaller for new or quiet pages. If Facebook asks Clarify to slow down on one of your pages, the account shows an amber **Rate limited** badge and Clarify automatically rests that page for a few minutes before carrying on. You don't need to do anything: new comments still arrive through Facebook's instant notifications during the rest, and the badge clears itself. If you see it constantly on a busy page, contact support.

## Disconnecting an account

In [Settings > Platforms](https://clarify.net.au/settings/platforms), click the bin icon next to the account. **Be careful:** removing an account permanently deletes all of its synced comments, classifications, replies, and sync history in Clarify. This cannot be undone. The comments on the platform itself are not affected.

## Connecting your diary and media library

The same page has a separate **Integrations** section further down, for connecting your Outlook diary and a media library so you can draft posts straight from events. Those are covered in [Your diary calendar](https://clarify.net.au/help/your-diary-calendar) and [Event media and your library](https://clarify.net.au/help/event-media-and-your-library).
