Monitors the news

Media monitoring that tells you when a story is about you, and how it reads

Clarify monitors the news for mentions of you. About once an hour it checks Google News, GDELT and any outlet feeds you add for your watch terms, has AI confirm each story is really about you rather than someone with the same name, writes a one-line summary and scores the tone as positive, neutral, negative or mixed. Negative coverage rises into your team's daily brief, so a story never breaks without you knowing.

Media monitoring: news mentions with AI summaries and tone

How media monitoring works in Clarify

  1. Name yourself

Add your watch terms: your name and the ways the press refers to you, such as "Jane Smith MP" or "Member for Riverina". Suggest with AI proposes terms from your connected page and adds the outlet feeds it finds, such as your local paper.

  2. Clarify checks every hour

Google News is watched automatically, GDELT and any RSS feeds you add alongside it. For each match the AI confirms the story is about you, summarises it in a line and scores its tone. Press Scan now when you cannot wait for the hour.

  3. Your team reads what matters

New mentions appear on the page and can alert you in the app and by email. Filter by tone, search, dismiss what you do not care about, and press Summarise article for a proper read of how a piece treats you.

How does it know the story is really about me?

A name match is not enough; there is usually someone else with your name. For every hit, the AI reads the piece against your workspace context and decides whether it is about you before it is shown. Each mention displays the term that matched, so you can see why it was picked up, and a false positive can be dismissed and will not return on the next scan.

What do I see for each mention?

The tone, the headline, the source, a short summary and the matching term. The short summary is written from the headline. For a closer read, Summarise article has the AI read the whole piece and write a few sentences on how you are actually mentioned and the tone toward you. That runs only when you ask. Some paywalled articles cannot be read, and Clarify says so with a link to open them yourself.

Where does it fit in the day?

Unread mentions show as a badge on the menu and in the dashboard's action centre, and negative coverage rises into the AI daily brief that starts your team's morning, next to the threats and the questions waiting on you. Mentions are kept for one, three, six or twelve months, whichever you choose, so the list stays about what is recent.

What does it not cover?

Media monitoring watches news and outlet feeds. It cannot watch Facebook or Instagram for general mentions of you, because those platforms do not offer that to any app. For your own pages, Clarify's moderation tools already read every comment. Other sources may be added over time, and this page will say so when they are.

Alert preferences, including media mention alerts by email

Who uses Clarify for media monitoring

  • Members of parliament and candidates, who need to know about a story before the first journalist rings.
  • Councils and public authorities, whose decisions make the local paper every week.
  • Public figures and their managers, who want the tone of coverage tracked, not just its existence.
  • Offices without an enterprise monitoring contract, which is most of them, since this is part of the same plan as moderation.

Frequently asked questions

Which sources does Clarify's media monitoring watch?

Google News automatically, the GDELT global news index, and any outlet RSS feed you add, such as your local paper. Clarify can suggest feeds for you when you set up your watch terms.

How often does it check?

About once an hour, with a Scan now button when you cannot wait. New mentions appear on the page and can alert you in the app and by email.

Does it watch Facebook, Instagram or X for mentions of me?

No. Clarify's media monitoring covers news and outlet feeds. Facebook and Instagram do not offer general mention search to any app, and Clarify does not claim otherwise. The comments on your own connected pages are read by Clarify's moderation tools.

How does it know a story is about me and not someone with the same name?

For every match the AI reads the piece against what it knows about you and confirms it is about you before it is shown. Each mention displays the term that matched, and anything wrong can be dismissed and will not come back.

Can it read the whole article?

Yes, on demand. Summarise article has the AI read the full piece and write a few sentences on how you are mentioned and the tone toward you. Some paywalled articles cannot be read, and Clarify tells you when that happens.

How long are mentions kept?

You choose: one, three, six or twelve months. Older mentions are removed automatically so the list stays focused on recent coverage.

How much does media monitoring cost?

Media monitoring is included in the Pro plan at A$149 a month and the Agency plan at A$299 a month, and in their 7-day free trials. It is not part of the Starter plan.
