Connecting Bluesky

Clarify can sync, classify, reply to and hide the replies on your Bluesky posts, block accounts, and publish posts to Bluesky, on every plan. Bluesky's API is free, so there are no credits or extra charges. This article explains how connecting works and what is different about Bluesky.

Bluesky is being switched on for workspaces in stages. If the Bluesky card in Settings > Platforms says Coming soon, it isn't available to your workspace yet.

Connecting an account

  1. Go to Settings > Platforms and find the Bluesky card.
  2. Type the account's handle, for example yourname.bsky.social. You can also paste the profile link. If the account uses its own domain as its handle (yourname.example.com), type that.
  3. Click Connect with Bluesky. You'll be taken to Bluesky's own sign-in page.
  4. Sign in and approve Clarify. You come back to Clarify with the account connected.

Clarify never sees your Bluesky password. Bluesky gives Clarify a token that you can revoke at any time from your Bluesky settings under Privacy and security > App passwords and authorised apps.

Who can connect

Bluesky has no staff roles. Unlike a Facebook Page, where a team member connects with their own login, whoever connects a Bluesky account needs to be able to sign in as that account. If the account has two-step sign-in turned on, they'll need the code Bluesky emails as well.

What syncs

  • Replies to the account's own posts, with each commenter's name, handle and picture.
  • Earlier replies are imported when you connect, the same as Facebook, within your plan's history window.
  • New replies arrive at your next scheduled scan. Bluesky offers no live notifications for this, so there can be a few minutes' delay.
  • Like counts on posts and replies. Bluesky has one kind of like, so there is no reaction breakdown.
  • Follower counts, for the audience chart on your dashboard.

Replies that mention your account outside your own threads, and quote posts, are not synced yet.

What you can do

Action On Bluesky
Reply Posts as a reply from the connected account
Hide Puts the reply behind Show hidden replies on your post. Only the author of a post can hide replies to it, which is always the case for replies under your own posts
Unhide Removes it from the hidden list
Block Blocks the account. Blocks are public on Bluesky, and the person's replies disappear from your threads for everyone
Delete a reply Not available. Bluesky doesn't let anyone delete someone else's post

Bluesky allows up to 300 hidden replies on one post. If a post reaches that number, Clarify tells you and the hide doesn't go through.

A reply already hidden in the Bluesky app shows as hidden in Clarify too.

Publishing to Bluesky

Pick the Bluesky account in the composer like any other. A few things to know:

  • 300 characters. The composer counts the way Bluesky does (an emoji is one character) and shows the count while a Bluesky account is ticked.
  • Links, @mentions and #hashtags become clickable automatically. A mention only links if the handle exists.
  • Link previews. A post with a link and no photos gets a preview card with the page's title, description and image, when the page provides them.
  • Photos or a video, not both. Up to 4 photos, or one video (MP4, up to 100 MB and 3 minutes). Bluesky only accepts video from accounts with a verified email address, and allows 25 videos a day.
  • First comment works: it posts as the first reply to your new post.
  • You can delete a published post from Clarify.

Reconnecting

A Bluesky connection normally stays alive indefinitely. You'll only see Reconnect needed if you revoked Clarify's access on Bluesky, changed something about the account that invalidated it, or moved the account to a different server. Type the handle and connect again; your history stays.
