X (Twitter) and X credits
Clarify can sync, classify, reply to and hide the replies on your X (Twitter) posts, and publish to X, on the Pro and Agency plans. X is the one platform that charges for access, so it comes with a monthly allowance of X credits. This article explains what a credit is, what uses them, and what happens when they run out.
X is being switched on for workspaces in stages. If the X card in Settings > Platforms says Coming soon, it isn't available to your workspace yet.
Why X has credits and the other platforms don't
Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Threads let Clarify read your comments and post on your behalf for free. X charges for every reply Clarify reads and every post it publishes. Rather than raise the price of every plan to cover the busiest X accounts, Clarify includes an allowance of X credits with the plans that have X, and shows you exactly what each action uses.
One credit is one reply read from X.
What's included
| Plan | X | X credits per month |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | Not included | – |
| Pro | Included | 2,000 |
| Agency | Included | 6,000 |
| Free trial | Included | 250 |
The allowance is shared across every X account the workspace connects, and it resets on the 1st of each month. Unused credits don't roll over.
What uses credits
| Action | Credits |
|---|---|
| A reply or mention synced from X | 1 |
| Deleting one of your X posts from Clarify | 1 |
| Hiding or unhiding a reply | 2 |
| Posting a reply, or publishing a post | 3 |
| Posting a reply or publishing a post that contains a link | 40 |
Links cost far more because X charges about 13 times as much for a post with a link in it. Clarify tells you before you post: the reply box and the X account button in the composer both show how many credits the text will use, and say so when a link is the reason. An email address is not counted as a link.
Checking X for new replies costs nothing when there's nothing new. You only use credits for what X actually returns.
Every mention of your account counts as a read, including mentions that aren't replies to your own posts. X doesn't let Clarify ask for one without the other.
Keeping an eye on usage
The X card in Settings > Platforms and the X credits card in Settings > Billing both show how many credits you've used this month. The workspace owner gets a notification when:
- 80% of the monthly allowance is used.
- An unusually large share of the allowance goes in a single day, for example when a post attracts a pile-on.
- The credits run out.
When credits run out
X pauses for the workspace until the 1st of the next month, or until you add credits. While it's paused:
- New replies on X are not synced.
- Replying, hiding and publishing to X from Clarify are unavailable.
- Everything already synced stays in Clarify, and your other platforms are unaffected.
When X starts again, syncing picks up from that moment. Replies that arrived on X while it was paused are not imported.
Topping up
On an active subscription, the X credits card in Settings > Billing offers one-off packs of 1,000 X credits. Top-up credits never expire and are used only after the monthly allowance runs out. Buying a pack while X is paused starts it again straight away.
How X differs from the other platforms
- No history import. Syncing starts from the moment you connect. Older replies aren't imported, because X would charge for each one.
- Replies arrive at your next scan. X offers no live notifications at this level of access, so new replies appear at the next scheduled scan, usually within five minutes.
- 280 characters. Posts and replies are limited to 280 characters as X counts them: any link counts as 23 characters and most emoji count as 2. Clarify shows X's count as you type.
- 100 posts a day. X allows an account 100 posts in 24 hours through Clarify, replies included.
- Photos or a video, not both. An X post is text, up to four photos, or one video.
- Hidden means hidden behind a click. A reply you hide on X is moved behind X's "hidden replies" link. It isn't deleted, and you can unhide it.
- No blocking yet. Blocking an X account from Clarify isn't available.
Connecting an X account
Go to Settings > Platforms, click Connect with X on the X card, sign in to X and approve the access Clarify asks for. You need the Manage pages permission in Clarify. Each connected X account counts towards your plan's accounts per platform.
